Job Description

EDT Social Worker / AMHP – Emergency Duty Team – North Yorkshire Council

North Yorkshire Council is seeking an experienced Emergency Duty Team (EDT) Social Worker who is AMHP qualified to join its out-of-hours safeguarding service, covering North Yorkshire and York. This critical role focuses on protecting vulnerable adults and children outside of standard working hours and responding to urgent safeguarding concerns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver out-of-hours responses to safeguarding concerns for adults, children, and families across North Yorkshire and York.
  • Undertake complex risk assessments and provide interventions that safeguard individuals until the next working day.
  • Act as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) where necessary, making informed decisions regarding mental health detentions.
  • Collaborate with police, health services, and other emergency services as part of a multi-agency approach.
  • Ensure statutory responsibilities are met, maintaining high professional standards during crisis interventions.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with Social Work England registration.
  • AMHP qualification (essential).
  • Extensive experience within adult or children’s safeguarding, EDT, or crisis response services.
  • Excellent risk assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Flexibility to work varying shift patterns, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • Ability to travel across North Yorkshire and York (hybrid role with base at County Hall, Northallerton).

Additional Information:

  • Out-of-hours shifts Monday to Friday from 16:30 – 23:00, with variable weekend and bank holiday cover.
  • Shifts will be planned on an 8-week rota basis.
  • Location: County Hall, Northallerton (hybrid working available).
  • Full-time or part-time hours available.
  • Inside IR35.
