Job Description

Qualified Social Worker – Assessment Team – Carmarthenshire County Council

Carmarthenshire County Council is recruiting an experienced Assessment Social Worker to join their Education & Children’s Service team, based at Ty Elwyn. This role is key in supporting families and safeguarding children by delivering detailed assessments and expert court reports in line with the All Wales Pledge.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete complex parenting assessments, including attachment analysis and parenting capacity assessments.
  • Assess connected persons and provide analysis on family dynamics and support networks.
  • Prepare Special Guardianship Reports for court proceedings.
  • Provide clear and analytical risk assessments, advising on parents’ capacity for change and risk management strategies.
  • Deliver high-quality court reports and represent the local authority in legal proceedings.
  • Work collaboratively with families, carers, and partner agencies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with Social Work England registration.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ post-qualified social work experience.
  • Strong background in parenting assessments, connected persons assessments, and Special Guardianship work.
  • Extensive court work experience and understanding of child protection legislation.
  • Excellent analytical, assessment, and report-writing skills.

Additional Information:

  • Based at Ty Elwyn, Carmarthenshire County Council.
  • Full-time: 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 08:45 – 17:00).
  • Inside IR35.
  • Pay rate aligned to All Wales Pledge
